Line Detectors

Line (or linear) heat detectors are heat-sensitive cables of two types widely used to monitor the build-up of heat in cable trays. Firstly, they may use the fixed rate principle where two conductors short-circuit after the insulation melts at a pre-determined level of heat. Or secondly, they may use the ‘rate of rise’ principle where the dielectric strength of insulation changes as heat increases.
